Dear Neighbor,
As property values continue to climb, many Hoosiers fear they will be forced out of their homes. In response to these rising costs, a new pilot program launched by the City of Indianapolis – Marion County will provide relief to eligible Riverside residents. The program will cap property tax increases at 4 percent for those 55 and older who have resided in their home for at least 10 years.
To qualify for the tax credit, homeowners must meet the following criteria:
Receiving the Homestead deduction in both 2022 and 2023;
Lived in that Homestead for 10 consecutive years;
Be 55 or older on December 31, 2023; and
Cannot claim both this new County Option Circuit Breaker and the Over 65 Circuit Breaker Credit.
Applications are available through the Marion County Auditor's Office until December 31, 2023. The application form can be found here. A completed application can be emailed to AuditorCustomerService@indy.gov or delivered to the Marion County Auditor's Office at 200 E. Washington St., Suite 841, Indianapolis, IN 46204. The application must be delivered or postmarked by January 5, 2024.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Summers, District 99 State Representative
